Over the past few months, the Newquay Town Team has been speaking to a wide range of residents, businesses, young people and stakeholders to create a vision for the town centre that delivers for all those who use it.

There have also been 3 workshops looking at specfic aspects of the emerging vision: - we would like to present a summary of what you have told us first and then look at the component parts of the emerging Vision. By focusing the mind and imagining the town in 2050, we have been able to capture aspiirational ideas for change unconstrained by challenges of delivery today.

  1. What have you told us so far.
  2. The Emerging Project Vision statements that will make NEWQUAY A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE CAN LIVE A GOOD LIFE BY THE SEA.
  3. The Priorities - the 4 priorities to focus our efforts on by outline objectives for delivering the change that we want to happen.
  4. How does this Vision impact the Spatial Plan?

We are looking for feedback and assessment of each of these 4 elements please via the FORUM button below.

Your ideas (whether building/public realm or other) for change

We want to hear your ideas and propositions for the future of Newquay Town centre. These ideas can be about changes you would like to see in the spaces, streets, buildings, uses and character of the town centre. They can be big or small ideas, simple or complex, short term or long term.

Please feel free to dream big....... and unconstrained by today's technology as such ideas may well give us a planning route for some "special" unique things in the years to 2050.

Please describe your idea.

  • What is it?
  • Why you think it would benefit the town centre?
  • Is it a new idea, or does it exists already?
  • Who you think may need to be involved in delivering it?
  • What steps do you think need to be taken to progress your idea?

Have you spotted any interesting articles on line that you think might help the team expand its ideas base - then please add here or email us a link to  admin@townteam.co,uk

Thank you.

    Graffiti

by Traveller, over 2 years ago

The graffiti around Newquay is everywhere. it Is dreadful, please can we not find the person/persons doing this. They should be named and shamed and made to clean it all up. Surely someone knows the perpetrators. It is a really bad advert for the town particularly when the council are trying to improve areas. The mural under the tunnel at Wild Flower Lane was ruined and the fences and walls covered. If you look around you will see so many buildings in the town itself that have been defaced. It is a disgrace.

    Return of the tram

by Ian4, over 2 years ago
My idea combines one already put forward (to create a larger park and ride on the outskirts of town) and to also bring back a tram. This could run from right out Quintrell way , through town and possibly on to Fistral (maybe even a circuit if hills can be managed). I have no idea of how practical the build would be, but benefits would be to reduce traffic in the town, provide an easy (hopefully fairly cheap) means of transport for residents and visitors alike and provide a bit of fun. A hop on hop off transit. The town... Continue reading

This site appears to allow for a way to get trees on the streets via sponsorship. Definately worth a quick read.

Permanent Park and Ride - Resident only parking

by AMYORK, over 2 years ago

I believe a permanent Park and Ride should be set up nearer to our Airport, directed from the A30 to reduce traffic and the parking in the town. There is lots of unused land and tarmac areas out near St.Mawgan. With a regular bus service as they do in Truro, St.Ives even Falmouth I believe running every 15 minutes. Run by the Newquay Council this could provide a income so any car-parks in the town centre could either be used as land to build affordable properties by, housing associations who are always looking for land to develop or residential only... TOLCARNE ROAD BOULAVARD

by Mr A Evers, over 2 years ago
Tolcarne Rd has direct access to the ever improving Great Western Beach.

It is becoming increasingly dangerous for people, locals and tourists alike, who cross Cliff Rd to access the beach and is only a matter of time before somebody is badly hurt or worse.

My idea is to put in a Zebra crossing for safety and to slow the traffic down.

The car park at the bottom of Tolcarne Rd is often used for beach access.

If the access road from Cliff Road down Edgumbe could be re opened it would make the beach access crossing much safer.

    It... Continue reading

    Bringing the community together

by Fee, over 2 years ago

I would love to see proper investment in an arts and culture centre for Newquay incorporating the museum in a light, fully accessible building in the heart of the town centre. This would offer a state of the art, interactive exhibition space to engage residents and visitors with the story of Newquay, particularly celebrating its Cornish maretime history and surfing culture which makes it unique. It would be home to our historical artefact collection. It would also provide flexible exhibition, education, workshop and events space and cafe for meet-ups and groups to help bring people together and combat loneliness. The... Continue reading

    Celebrating Newquay's history.

by Newquay66, over 2 years ago
I hope it is ok putting forward an idea when I live in Sheffield. My 'name' represents the first year I visited Newquay as a 6 yrs old girl and apart from lockdown I have been every year since, usually several times. As a family we love Newquay. Our son and daughter in law got married there and our young Grandson George fundraises for the RNLI and received the Young Citizen Award in 2019. The changes we have noticed have not always been for the better, sadly.

My idea would be for local schools (a children's festival) to decorate the pedestrian... Continue reading
