Cornwall Youth Council
We are Cornwall Youth Council
We are a group of young people age 11+ who live or go to school in Cornwall. We create our own campaigns based on statements voted on by young people across Cornwall. We also work with decision makers to ensure children and young people are heard involved and taken seriously in matters that affect them.
There are five roles that make up Cornwall Youth Council and they each have different responsibilities. Check out our different roles 👇
Elected Member:
18 members anonymously voted for by over 13,500 young people across Cornwall.
Will develop a manifesto based on statements chosen by young people.
Member of Youth Parliament:
Three young people chosen from the Elected Members by their peers to represent Cornwall's young people on a national scale.
Associate Member:
These members will support the work of the Elected Members to deliver on the manifesto.
Peer Mentor:
Peer mentors support young people who are involved in Youth Council and will help others to settle in and build confidence.
Communications team:
Usually called the ‘Comms Team’ they work to create videos and a newsletter to share the work of the Youth Council or Cornwall Council with other young people.
We recently held elections to begin our 2026-2028 term over 13,500 young people voted! From this we have started to build our campaign areas, these are:
Accessibility, disability and inclusion (SEND, young carers and sanitary items)
Increasing youth voice and support
Transport access and freedom to travel
Sports, leisure and safe activity spaces
Mental health support and wellbeing
This may change a little as we develop our campaigns and launch our manifesto.
