The Education Business Partnership works with schools to help young people access work experience opportunities.

Work experience is available to pupils in Year 10 and above. It gives young people the chance to spend time in a real workplace and learn about the world of work.

During their placement, pupils take part in everyday work activities and develop valuable skills. They gain first-hand experience of the workplace and learn what it is like to be part of a team.

Our Management of Work Experience Scheme helps schools deliver safe and effective work experience programmes.

Schools that buy into the scheme will receive:

  • Access to our Work Experience Resources
  • Access to the Work Experience Database for Cornwall
  • Professional placement suitability visits
  • Work Experience Logbook for Students
  • National work experience research and legal updates
  • Work Experience Coordinator Hotline
  • Certificates of Completion for all students who complete a placement.

Why Work Experience Matters

Work experience gives young people the opportunity to develop essential employability skills, gain an understanding of the workplace and explore potential career pathways. It helps young people build confidence, improve communication skills and make informed decisions about their future education, training and employment options.

Work experience also enables employers to engage with future talent, supports careers education within schools and helps young people understand the skills and behaviours valued in the workplace.

We also offer Passport to Work Experience.

This programme gives pupils the chance to experience a real workplace. It helps them develop skills, build confidence and prepare for their future careers.

Pupils will collaborate with local employers and specialist providers, taking part in interactive, hands-on activities that build real employability skills - including CV workshops, interview preparation, enterprise challenges, and guided career exploration.

We tailor this five-day programme for pupils who may find traditional work placements difficult to access. Aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks and shaped by current opportunities across local industries, it remains meaningful and relevant.     The Bicycle Project In the summer term, 107 Year 10 pupils took part in this years Passport to Work Experience (PWEX). Pupils from Brannel, Poltair, Liskeard and Saltash schools took part in 46 skills sessions. The sessions focused on employability skills and STEM learning.

    The programme was organised by Laura Morrison. Laura works at the Education Business Partnership. She is a Project Coordinator and worked with employers to give young people the chance to learn about different jobs across Cornwall.

    Passport to Work Experience is for pupils who are unable to take part in a traditional work experience placements. Some young people face challenges with traditional work experience. These could include travel issues, a lack of local placements or personal circumstances.

    The programme makes sure these pupils do not miss out. Instead of travelling to a workplace, employers come into school and deliver hands-on sessions.

    The Education Business Partnerships has delivered PWEX for many years. It is an essential programme and gives pupils the chance to meet employers. They learn new skills and find out more about future career options.

    This year many organisations supported our young people and we would like to thank them all. Their support is vital to show young people what they do.

    The workshops covered a wide range of topics, so there was something for everyone. They helped pupils learn about different careers while building important skills for the future. These included teamwork, communication, creativity, problem-solving, leadership and confidence. Many pupils said they enjoyed the programme and would recommend it to their friends.

    All pupils developed skills that will support their future choices. Feedback from pupils and schools was very positive and showed the difference the programme made.

    After the success of this year's programme, the team hopes to offer Passport to Work Experience to even more young people next year. We can help young people who cannot access traditional work experience. It is important that these young people get the chance to meet employers and learn about different jobs.
