Changes to the road surface, crossing points and street features are proposed for Royal Square, Library Corner and Tregenna Place in St Ives.

The survey is now open for responses until 23/07/2026.

What are we consulting on?

As per the attached site notice, surfacing and landscaping works are proposed for an area in St Ives town centre. Imprint surfacing with the appearance of block paving is proposed, as has been used elsewhere, including up the hill by the Harbour Hotel.

Informal/courtesy crossing points are proposed to be highlighted with tactile paving and a different colour of surfacing.

A granite planter is proposed on the island in the centre of Royal Square.

Limited existing surfacing and footways will also be resurfaced or cleaned respectively.

This project looks to enhance the visual streetscape in the town and although there is a relationship, are independent to the Experimental Traffic Order Scheme, the details of which can be found here. These works therefore are proposed to be installed no matter the outcome of the ETRO.

Please respond to the ETRO scheme questionnaire for any comments regarding the changes of traffic flow and road layout in the town, as if doing so through this consultation such responses may not be appropriately recorded given the limited nature of this consultation.

Why are we doing this?

The aim is to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment, as a gateway feature to further visually discourage drivers from driving further into the town centre.

The imprint surfacing provides an effective, hard-wearing and attractive surface, where shallow underground services and traffic management timing constraints would prevent the installation of regular block paving in the carriageway.

Positive feedback was previously received on this part of the proposal in a public exhibition held in September 2024.
