Hayle River Community Project

Cornwall Council is working with the Environment Agency to create a plan for the future of the Hayle River. We will look at current footpaths and think of ideas for flood protection and habitat creation.

You may have noticed sections of the footpath have been closed due to erosion. This is because the river is now starting to follow its natural route again.

We need options to protect these footpaths and look for alternative routes if needed. We will also look at flood defences on the river.

Within this project we'd like to work together effectively across the Cornwall Council, Environment Agency, Parish Councils and the local community. To review the project so far, Cornwall Council is holding a 2nd workshop to present the vision plan and gather feedback from the local community. All welcome; please come and hear from the project team and share your thoughts.

Date: Wednesday 29th June | Time: 2pm – 7pm

Location: St Erth Methodist Hall, Chapel Hill, St. Erth Postcode: TR27 6HL

If you were unable to attend the first workshop, the presentation and resources from the workshop are available on the right hand side of this page.

  • Following on from the publishing of the Vision Plan in September, we intend to create a project steering group that will meet quarterly. From this steering group we intend to create 4 project working groups (if there is enough interest):

    1) Community climate change resilience (flood risk and carbon storage)

    2) Access, public realm and connectivity

    3) Landscape and catchment scale land-use

    4) Habitat and biodiversity

Please use this survey to express your interest. Updates will follow in due course.
