Have your say on our proposals for Newquay

You can have your say on the latest proposals by taking part in our consultation survey, which is now live, and began on Wednesday 15th October.

The consultation will run until Friday 7 November.

Why are we making changes?

The scheme forms part of the wider £56.8m investment in Cornwall’s public transport network. We aim to provide improved walking and cycling links to Newquay Railway Station.

The scheme will connect with the existing cycling and walking infrastructure at the Tram tracks and the Barrowfields. It will also regenerate Cliff Road and the Station exterior to transform it into a visually appealing, accessible place to live, work, shop and visit.

More information about the background and feedback from our previous consultations for this scheme can be found here

What are we consulting on?

The proposals are comprised of a number of alterations, including:

  • Providing 3 no. disabled parking bays (blue badge) on Cliff Road with 1 designated taxi bay to remain.
  • Upgrading existing 30 minute on-street free parking to 1 hours (9am - 6pm) on Cliff Road.
  • New on street 1 hour (9am - 6pm) free parking to be implemented along Oakleigh Terrace.
  • New two-way cycle lane to be constructed along the length of Cliff Road connecting the Barrowfields shared use path to the tram tracks. This is achieved by the removal of existing parking and loading bays and re-alignment of the carriageway and footways.
  • Upgrade of existing wide footway on Narrowcliff (Phase 1) to shared use and associated works.
  • Upgrade of existing footway and Narrowcliff (Phase 1) to dedicated cycle lane.
  • 20mph limit along Cliff Road to create a safer environment for cyclists and pedestrians, extending from the northern end of Berry Road until a point south-west of the Narrowcliff/A3058 (Hilgrove Road) Roundabout.
  • Introduction of No Loading At Any Time restrictions on Tolcarne Road in the vicinity of the upgraded Tolcarne Car Park to allow safe access. No Loading At Any Time restrictions are also planned on Cliff Road, as well as adjoining side road junctions.
  • Existing loading bay to be relocated to the bus stop outside of Newquay Station, to provide dedicated loading/unloading facilities to benefit businesses and commercial premises. New loading bay to replace the existing parking bay in Tolcarne Road immediately south of the Cliff Road junction, to provide an additional loading/unloading facility for businesses nearby.
  • New pedestrian crossing located on Cliff Road to the south-west of Tolcarne Road junction. The signalised crossing will allow pedestrians to cross both the cycle Lane and the Carriageway.
  • Upgraded Toucan crossing on Cliff Road outside of Newquay Station to allow pedestrians and cyclists to safely access the station.
  • No parking on footway enforcements will be put in place alongside the no waiting restrictions at the entrance to Marcus Hill (see Site Notice 16).
  • Tolcarne Car Park upgrade providing a total of 83 standard spaces, 5 disabled bays and 6 coach spaces. Charging will be only between 1 April to 31 October (9am – 4pm).
  • A net total of 15-30 new car parking spaces will be provided for the town.
  • Landscaping works at the Station forecourt/plaza area on Cliff Road, including surfacing changes, new street furniture (Benches, Bins, Cycle Stands and Planting) and the removal of street clutter.
  • Landscaping works at pedestrian path on Narrowcliff, including surfacing changes, new street furniture (Benches, Bins, Cycle Stands and Planting) and 2 new telescopes.
  • Introduction of No Waiting At Any Time restrictions (double yellow lines) on Henver Road from Bolowthas Corner to and encompassing the junction of Bosuen Road, to prevent obstructive parking along that approach and protect the route to/from Chester Road.
