Cornwall Council in conjunction with the Bord Ertach Kernow have developed a mapping tool identifying heritage at risk of coastal and fluvial change in Cornwall. The Heritage at Risk Information Tool is designed is to help communities understand the impact of climate change on our historic environment. Working with communities we aim to support informed decisions on the management of these risks as part of the wider community climate adaptation planning in Cornwall.
Risk to heritage assets can be gradual, going unnoticed until too late for effective action to be taken, or it can be catastrophic following a major event. Cornwall Council’s Strategic Historic Environment team will be encouraging and supporting parishes to start the process of consulting with their communities to create heritage adaptation plans. These dynamic plans will enable communities to plan for scenarios and engage all within their community in the process. It allows time to investigate the viability of different options and their impact on the future resilience of that community. They allow communities to understand what the trigger points may be for implementing these decisions.
