Introduction

Your feedback will help inform the allocation of Future Cost Bude project funding.

About Future Coast Bude funding

Future Coast Bude is a project funded by the Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Bude was selected to be part of a programme of work to be delivered across the country looking at how communities can adapt to a changing coastline.

Cornwall Council received funding from Defra to work with the community to help them plan for the future, as well as delivering projects which will help them adapt now.

£3M was received and some of this has already been used to deliver projects such as the Park and Ride pilot and the Sand Rails access way project. It is also funding Community Conversation events and the Youth Board which has been set up.

How these project proposals have been developed

The project team have spent the last 12 months working with key partners in Bude to understand what is most at risk from coastal erosion and sea level rise, and what can realistically be delivered with the project funding. Stakeholders who have been involved in these discussions include Cornwall Council services such as Car Parks and Countryside Teams, Bude-Stratton Town Council, the Environment Agency, RNLI, Bude Area Tourist Board, 2 Minute Foundation, Ad Surf, Active8 and the Town Team.

Projects that have been identified focus on those which are achievable in the timescales due to land ownership and many other factors. Initial ground investigation work and ecology surveys have been undertaken to help inform these projects. All of the projects have permitted development rights and will not require separate planning applications.

Purpose of this survey

We now want to get the views of the community of Bude about the adaptation projects proposed, to understand which projects we should fund and deliver.

This is your opportunity to indicate your preference and feedback to ensure that the funding is spent in the best way to help Bude adapt to coastal change.

Without evidence of community support, this funding opportunity to improve Bude’s resilience may  be lost. As can be seen from other areas like Torcross in Devon, change can happen rapidly along the coastline from storms, linked to climate change. This is why we want to be pro-active and make changes to adapt while we can.
