Background and objectives
Pre-existing issuesof food insecurity, and financial precarity, related to poverty and depravation in Cornwall,have been exaggerated with the impact of guidelines introduced to manage the Coronavirus Pandemic.This continues to contribute to a wide range of negative health and wellbeing outcomes for people.
Emergency mitigatingactions have been undertaken by Cornwall Council and Central Government,as well as additional effort and resource provision by existing volunteer community organisations.This has helped alleviate negative outcomes by providing free school meals, emergency food provision, help with energy bills,assistance with water & sewerage, plus the provision ofother essentials. This activity is ongoing as we move through the Covid recovery roadmap and deliver grant funding supplied by thegovernment.
As part of the ongoing project, lead by Matt Sharp, Guy Thomas & Kamal Patel with Pat Aston as PM, We are gathering information on how food insecurity in the context of financial hardship is identified and managed by the council and commissioned services. This will help inform recommendations with the aim of reducing food insecurity in Cornwall. You may have provided similar information previously as part of the COVID-19 emergency response, please feel free to provide this and answer any additional questions.
