Hello and welcome to the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Education Business Partnership (EBP)

Let's Talk Cornwall Project Page!

Cornwall Education Business Partnership (CEBP) works with:

  • Employers
  • Schools and
  • Colleges

to help young people prepare for the world of work. Developing knowledge, character and employability skills. This is done through a range of careers related activities and work experience. While increasing social mobility and challenging stereotypes.

Our Projects:

Climate – This project page is a dedicated space for all schools interested in climate and its impacts. Through the Climate - Eco-Ed Project, Cornwall Council offers advice to schools, access to climate workshops, we will help schools seek funding for their eco-initiatives and this year we are collaborating with Let’s Go Zero to help decarbonise school buildings and grounds. Our Eco-Education Project Manager is always here to help.

Eco-Events The Faraday Challenge –The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday Challenge Day is a national initiative aimed at inspiring young people to engage with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects through real-world engineering challenges. EBP is proud to partner with IET to deliver these events across Cornwall, giving pupils the opportunity to develop innovative solutions, gain hands-on experience, and build essential life skills. Challenge Days are held at schools, organisations, and universities throughout the UK.Real -Life ChallengesYep! –The Yep! programme supports young people aged 16 to 24 in Cornwall who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET), or at risk of becoming NEET, including those with special educational needs or from vulnerable groups. As one of eleven project partners, our dedicated team works to build participants’ confidence and resilience, equipping them with skills and opportunities to prepare for the world of work.

Youth Employment Project

RSC – In collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry, Cornwall Education Business Partnership (EBP) has delivered an inspiring programme to select schools, fostering student interest in STEAM-based careers. This partnership reflects a shared dedication to innovation, collaboration, and education, aiming to nurture the next generation of scientists. By exploring real-world applications of chemistry, the programme encourages students to envision futures in cutting-edge scientific fields.Celebrating DiversityD2T – Diversity to Thrive is a new collaborative network of employers and education providers. Driven by Cornwall Council’s commitment to improving diversity and inclusion for young people across the County.

The network is dedicated to expanding their talent pool and assisting young individuals with Special Education Needs and Disabilities in transitioning to employment. Offering young people an inclusive and thriving business community in which to find inspiration and opportunities.

Lego League - The Lego League is a global program designed to engage young people in STEM through robotics and problem-solving challenges. In Cornwall, the Education Business Partnership (EBP) organises the event, bringing together around 500 students over two days at HMS Culdrose.

A taste of what we do!

We were delighted to be a part of this year’s Logo League regional final at RNAS Culdrose in March, where teams were competing for the chance to qualify for the National and International finals.

Over 600 students from 60 primary and secondary schools descended on 736 Squadron Hanger sporting school colours and specially made hoodies to represent their corner of Cornwall and take part in what, for hundreds of children, is the highlight of the year.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge is a global STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) challenge for teams of 9 to 16 year olds. Young people taking part work together to explore a given topic and to design, build and program an autonomous LEGO robot.

The day, jointly organised by Royal Navy and Cornwall Council, featured a science show from the fantastic Mad Science SW team, demonstrations and robotics aplenty, with students making the hanger their base for the day.

“I just can’t believe I’m here! I’ve loved taking part in everything, it’s just such a great day.” (Ashton, from St Day School)

LEGO league is an extracurricular opportunity for students to develop skills in problem solving, computer programming, teamwork, self-confidence, and time management.

The event also encourages more girls into STEM, with 41% of participants being female.

Students had the opportunity to network and engage with a number of organisations including Tec Girls, Cognition, Raising Robots, Lockheed Martin, Royal Navy, Falmouth University, Spaceport Cornwall and Software Cornwall.

“Lego League drives brilliant life skills - a brilliant introduction to STEM activities." (Lieutenant Commander Richard Turrell, Royal Navy)

A big thank you to our event sponsors: The Institute of Engineering and Technology (The IET), Lockheed Martin, Leonardo UK Ltd, Soroptimist International ( St Austell and District), Serco and Morwind Ltd.

George Slater is the ASK project lead for EBP and recently supported and inspired the pupils of Kehelland College.

One of the benefits of attending careers events to represent The ASK Programme is the opportunity to network with other stakeholders, and one example is Kehelland College. Having heard about our work on the Development School programme, they requested support and we were able to deliver a bespoke session that:

    • Gave an overview of apprenticeships using the dedicated SEND resources from Amazing Apprenticeships
    • Moved onto a Lego Robotics challenge where the 11 participants worked in teams to build and customise their own vehicles.
    • Used their coding skills to create movement, sound effects and navigate - all using problem solving and team work to great effect.
    • Rounded off with the wonderful This is my story video and a chance for questions.

They have posted about it here and completed a case study that is shared with the DfE to help measure the impact of The ASK Programme.

Some quotes: "George came into our third-year lesson and spoke about apprenticeships and set up a Lego car STEM task, he then showed an amazing video, showing young people with disabilities, who are were speaking about their apprenticeship, this was particularly relevant for our young people and gave them to see other young people like themselves achieving through the apprenticeship scheme. One young person has applied for an apprenticeship and a further two are going to speak with their work experience employers, to see if they would consider offering them an apprenticeship."
