For many of our residents living in rural areas accessing the services they need can be a challenge, particularly in communities where access to public transport may be limited and walking and cycling are not a realistic option. We are working with communities and partners to explore new ways of increasing transport choice in rural areas.

In partnership with Mobilityways, Cornwall Rural Community Charity, Penwith Community Area Partnership and local stakeholders we are undertaking the trial of a Car Share community for the West Penwith area. The project looks to increase transport options in some of our most rural communities. The trial will initially run for a period of 12 months.

Supporting Rural Travel and Building Connections

We all share cars regularly, with our friends and family, without thinking about it. But there are often times when a driver has empty seats simply because they don't know anyone who needs a lift or they might not be aware of the benefits of sharing. The app-based community enables users to search for, share and match car journeys.

To get started::

Visit the West Penwith Carshare Community website: WPCC.liftshare.com

Or download the Mobilityways app to your phone or personal device and follow these steps:

  1. Tap join a community
  2. Search for ‘ West Penwith Community Car Share’
  3. Join and add you journey as a driver or passenger

View the instructions for more details on how to join and get started.

View the Molbilityways Carsharing FAQs for more information about how car sharing works, including some do's and don'ts and handy tips.

Mobilityways are offering members who sign up and share a journey the chance to win £100 in shopping vouchers. Simply join and share a journey for your chance to win (T&Cs apply) .

    Do drivers get their fuel covered?

    LPenrose asked 5 months ago

    Hello,

    The Lift share app calculates a suggested contribution per passenger for your journey based on the length of your trip and using HM Revenue and Customs Approved Mileage Payment Allowance. Drivers can adjust the price within a capped window, to ensure passenger costs offset real costs and no profit is made - therefore not invalidating your car insurance. The contribution set by the driver using this system is fixed, making it simple and transparent for everyone involved.
