Shaping Futures Opens New Doors for Home Educated Young People

Jo Ledger Shaping Future Lead

Young people and families across Cornwall are taking part the Shaping Futures project.

Shaping Futures works with Electively Home Educated (EHE) young people. It gives them the chance to learn new skills, meet others and explore ideas for the future.

The project is led by Jo Ledger from the Education Business Partnership (EBP). Jo is a qualified careers adviser. She enjoys helping young people explore their next steps.

Sessions have taken place across Cornwall at a range of venues. Young people have taken part in LEGO Robotics, K'Nex Air Powered Cars, digital workshops and cooking sessions. These activities give young people the chance to try new things in a fun and welcoming setting.

The project brings together colleges, local services and community groups. This helps families learn more about the options available after school. It also helps young people discover new interests and find out about different career paths.

The workshops focus on learning through practical activities. Young people can build, create, test ideas and work with others. Many families have said they value the chance to take part in activities that are both enjoyable and educational.

"We have thoroughly enjoyed today's workshop. All four of my children are different ages and have been able to explore their imagination, experiment with coding skills and develop a range of valuable skills. Thank you for your support and for making us feel so welcome." – Parent

"I really enjoyed building and programming the LEGO robot. It was fun seeing it complete the challenges, and I learned skills I didn't know I had." - EHE Young Person

The project will continue over the coming months. Future sessions will include information about post-16 choices and visits from local employers. These events will help young people learn more about education, training and the world of work. Please follow the project and book onto sessions here: Book a Session

Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, Shaping Futures is helping young people gain new experiences, build skills and think about their future in a positive way.
