We are improving traffic flow at the Gilston Rd/Callington Rd junction and on Burraton Road.
What are we consulting on?
On 30 January 2025 we brought into force an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) to implement a right-hand turn prohibition, into Callington Road from Gilston Road.
Making a right turn onto the main road is challenging, and often leads to traffic queuing behind and causing delays for both left and right-turning vehicles. By banning right turns, we hope to improve road safety in the area and improve traffic flow by reducing traffic congestion caused by long waiting times for vehicles completing right-turn manoeuvres from GIlston Road.
While the prohibition is in force, drivers wishing to make right turns will instead be required to use Pillmere Roundabout 150 meters south of Gilston Road. Users heading in the direction of Liskeard will be encouraged to use Burraton Road. Additionally, extra double yellow lines are therefore proposed on Burraton Road to prevent obstructive parking and facilitate better traffic-flow.
Next steps
These measures are initially being implemented as a trial in the form of an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO). The ETRO was brought into force on the 30/01/2025 and will remain in force for a period of 6 months minimum, which can be extended up to 18 months depending upon the response. Following this, Cornwall Council will make a decision on whether to make these measures permanent.
