Our Priorities for Cornwall

Our Council Priorities set out our ambitions for the next four years and outline the key areas of focus for the organisation. We don’t want to just ‘manage decline or patch potholes’, we want to build a better Cornwall and shape a brighter future for One and All. These priorities will shape how we plan, deliver and improve services.

They are rooted in the feedback we receive from residents through our residents’ survey, our customer interactions, the hundreds of consultations we undertake every year and the views of children and young people in Cornwall.

Strong, safe, vibrant communities with more decent and affordable housing We want to deliver more decent, affordable homes and create good jobs so that people can live and work where they were born, raise families without fear of being priced out, and take pride in the place they call home.

A clean, green Cornwall with healthy rivers and seas - not just in words, but in practice. A Cornwall where nature thrives alongside people, and where we lead by example on clean energy, protecting our environment, and sustainable living.

A resilient economy creating good growth and jobs This isn’t about waiting for someone else to bring prosperity. It’s about using what we already have - our coastlines, our minerals, our skills, our culture - and unleashing that potential.

A caring place for families where children can build a bright future with lifelong opportunities that stretch beyond their postcode. That means better schools, stronger support services, and a renewed focus on mental health and wellbeing.

Supporting people to live healthy and dignified lives Where every person, no matter their age or background, has the chance to lead a good life and to be a part of their local community.

Connected, safe and reliable roads and transport because decent transport links keep both our residents and our economy moving in the right direction, giving access to jobs, helping businesses to thrive.

Council Priorities in detail

For each priority, the Council Priorities Plan 2026-2030 sets out briefly why this is a priority and outlines the key areas of actions through which the priority will be achieved. The plan also includes a set of indicators that will help us to measure progress against each priority.

In the next section of this survey we will take each priority in turn.
