Work continues to progress on the Mid Cornwall Active Travel improvements in Penryn. We are halfway through the improvements at Quay Hill, installing new dropped kerbs, improved crossing points and laying tactile paving. Works are being carried out during the daytime, using temporary give-and-take traffic management.
The first phase at Treliever Road involved realigning the footway beneath the railway bridge, to increase the available width for pedestrians and provide improved crossing facilities. This was carried out under a night-time road closure to avoid disruption to daytime traffic flows and local bus services. Having successfully completed this section, the team has now moved to the junction of Treliever Road and Station Road, where further footway improvements and a new pedestrian crossing points are being installed. This phase is expected to be completed by the end of next week and will also be carried out at night time.
Works at Saracen Place were paused at the end of August while we await a connection date from National Grid. Once this has been completed, works we’ll resume the installation of a new zebra crossing beacon.
Looking head the next major phase of the project to commence will be the upgrading of the traffic signal equipment at the junction of Quay Hill and Commercial Road. Further information about the programme and any associated traffic management will be shared closer to the start of these works.
