What is Newquay Futures and the Town Centre Development Plan?

The Newquay Town Team is looking at how the town centre can be revitalised. Our aim is a long-term vision for the town centre for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations of residents and visitors, identifying the projects needed and finding the funding to make it happen. The strategy is called the Newquay Town Centre Development Framework. It will come in three parts:

  1. A Vision will seek community and stakeholder inputs to help us shape a collective ambition for the town centre, one that paves the way for long-term local resilience, growth, culture, community and wellbeing.
  2. A Spatial Framework will illustrate how the vision can be delivered. It will provide a holistic, place-based strategy for growth and change in the town centre. This strategy will explore existing and new project ideas for improving the town centre, and propose a coordinated spatial plan for movement, public spaces, town centre uses, and development opportunities.
  3. An Investment Plan will present a clear plan of action and investment to support the delivery of the vision and spatial framework. It will identify the priority actions that have real power to transform the town centre, and help position these actions for different funding opportunities.

We want to hear from as many of you as possible throughout the whole of this process to help us define the future of the town centre. Please visit the Newquay Futures Vision page to give us your views of Newquay town centre today, and your ideas for how it should change and improve.

We have a permanent exhibition space in the Library. Why not visit? Or visit an event and meet a member of the Newquay Town Team.

    Are you holding more Pop Alongs in August?

    Yes we are - 

    Royal British Legion on Tuesday 9th August 2022 6pm to 8pm

    Up at the Orchard on Thursday 12th August from 11am to 2pm

    and at the Libarary on Saturday 13th August from 10 am to 12noon.

    We would love to see you at any of these events.

    Why do we need a Vision?

    almost 2 years ago

    Every journey needs a destination and that is what we hope the vision will provide. We may take detours and may decide to stop off for a while but every step that Newquay takes should be in the direction of that ambition. 

    Collective agreed action will get us a lot further, a lot quicker than each of us struggling on our own to make the town a better place.  There is no doubting the desire for improvement by many in the town. 

    This is your chance to help shape that vision and then play whatever part you can in its achievement whether that is a big or small part. Momentum counts.

    Hopefully future generations will be able to look back on 2022 and see it as a key turning point in the history of the town with today's generation leaving a visible legacy for the next.

    The best way to contact us is to email us - admin@townteam.co.uk but if that is not your way of communicating, then please leave a letter or contact details for our attention at the library. 

    We will then contact you - your opinions are of value to us.

    We have many dates already set for pop alongs - more will appear and feel free to make suggestions are to where we should be.

    Who will own this Framework and Investment plan?

    You will  - as a member of the community of Newquay. The reports and plans should allow the town to act quickly when funding opportunities come along. Both local and county elected representatives and Cornwall council officers will have these documents as reference materials. Newquay Town Team members will continue to champion the projects identified and seek funding for such from whatever funding option may appear.

    What is the Newquay Town Team?

    The Newquay Town Team is a partnership between businesses, voluntary and community organisations, resident associations, BID, Newquay Town Council and Cornwall Council together with local residents and stakeholders. It aims to provide co-ordination of development activity within the Town making Newquay a thriving, sustainable community that offers a secure home, a decent income and a great environment for all.

    We would love the opportunity to visit your community group - please email admin@townteam.co.uk with some contact details and we will email/phone you as quickly as possible. Someone normally checks our emails at least once every 24 hours.
