We are proposing some pedestrian improvements on Lusty Glaze Road to enhance connection between Lusty Glaze Beach and Newquay Town Centre.

What are we consulting on?

We are proposing to build a new footpath along the grass verge between the access road to the Glendorgal Hotel and the junction with Manewas Way, near Lusty Glaze Road. As part of this work, we will also refresh the existing "No Waiting at Any Time" road markings.

In addition, we plan to improve two pedestrian crossings. These upgrades will include tactile paving and other safety features. One crossing is on Manewas Way, and the other is on Lusty Glaze Road, helping to link the two existing footpaths and make it easier and safer for people to cross.

Why are we doing this?

We’re planning to create a safer and more accessible walking route from Lusty Glaze beach to Newquay town centre, using the scenic path along Barrowfield Cliff. This will involve upgrading the current informal footpath and improving pedestrian crossings to make this scenic, coastal route easier and safer for everyone.

Originally, the project aimed to improve the shared-use path along the cliff edge all the way to the Lusty Glaze car park. However, due to programme constraints and funding deadline pressures, the work has been split into two phases:

  • Phase 1: Focused on delivering the feasibility study for the cliff section, which has now been successfully implemented on-site.
  • Phase 2: Involves developing feasibility options for the Lusty Glaze section. This phase is currently progressing, with the preferred option—selected by the client—being prepared for on-site delivery.

Next steps

If the responses to the consultation are mostly positive the the scheme will progress to detailed design, subject to considering any proposals to improve the design.
