Saracen Way Woodlands, Penryn

Saracen Way Woodland (in the Glasney Valley, Penryn)

The Making Space for Nature project aims to improve urban green spaces in Cornish towns, increasing their wildlife value, accessibility and community enjoyment.

In the woodland between Brook Place and Saracen Way, Penryn, we are planning enhancements that will improve resilience of the landscape to the impacts of climate change and increase its social value.

To download a plan please go to the documents section of the main project page.

Plans include a robust replacement bridge from College Hill that will enhance connectivity through the valley. Likewise, we are considering improving accessibility via the path from Brook Place, with sensitively planned habitat enhancement on the south side of the river.

Native species understory planting will create the next generation of trees. Improving ground cover of native species will help limit growth of invasive species.

Around the path from Saracen Way, ideas include planting of perennials, berries and fruit trees resembling a forest garden.
