Could you be our next Chair? Following our involvement in the development of the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly (CIoS) Nature Recovery Strategy comes an exciting opportunity to not only shape but lead its delivery as Chair of the Local Nature Partnership (LNP). As our current Chair comes to the end of his term we are looking for a passionate and dedicated advocate for nature recovery to take on the exciting role of leading the partnership.

With 5 years to deliver local and national ambitions for 30% of land, rivers and seas to be well managed for nature we are seeking individuals with experience of bringing together partnerships and securing funding to implement change across the public, private and voluntary sectors.

The Board has agreed that its main priority over the coming years will be to help facilitate delivery of the Nature Recovery Strategy which will require working closely with Cornwall Council, as the Responsible Authority, the Council of the Isles of Scilly and many other partners to drive local action and collaboration, especially on large scale, transformational projects. This approach will be extended into the marine environment, in recognition of one of the LNP’s other main priorities in supporting the emerging Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Marine Nature Recovery Framework.

Alongside this our other focus is Farming and Sustainable Food, aiming to build on relationships within the farming and landowner community developed through the co-design of the Nature Recovery Strategy and our award-winning Farming, Food and Nature Hub at the Royal Cornwall Show.

To ensure nature recovery and its wider benefits are considered alongside other regional priorities the LNP Chair will also have a place on the CIoS Leadership Board. Alongside supporting the Board and its members to build on the existing relationships it has with its Sub-Groups, the Economic Forum, Climate Commission, and Health and Wellbeing Boards which will be critical to the effective delivery for nature and its recovery. The role also plays a leading role in championing nature and working with other organisations on the regional and national stage.

The board is made up of members from public, private and third sector and is a dynamic and informed forum that aims to make better connections between evidence and decisions to improve environmental, nature and wellbeing outcomes.

About the role

We are looking for a great communicator who can articulate the complexity of the environmental challenges facing Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to inspire and influence positive outcomes. The successful candidate will need to have an awareness of environmental legislation, planning law, renewable energy and climate change as well as experience of chairing high profile boards/committees. The role also requires an individual who can garner the respect of a large range of stakeholders and previous experience of successfully attracting public and private finance will be essential.

The successful candidate will be required to commit a minimum of up to two days per week, although the precise nature and timing of this commitment can be agreed. Remuneration rate for this role is £20,000 per annum and the term of appointment is three years, with the possibility of serving two terms.

The role profile is available here and the Terms of Reference is available here.
