Who is representing us

I grew up outside Camborne and had to find accommodation in Penzance in the 90's it was near impossible because of language schools. I'd first moved to Reading after graduation and only one person I knew was able to buy somewhere because his wife had a great job. Interest rates were 15% or more at the time. I worked really hard...really really hard and bought a place to do up in Newlyn and eventually my contemporaries who moved away are all in their fifties and moving back. Because most of us don't have the entitlements of the public sector we have invested in property as a means of providing retirement income and we all feel like we have become enemy number one and know that the weak councillors are coming after us instead of providing better employment as that's put in the too difficult basket. Much easier to demonise those who have worked hard to provide retirement income and housing than actually deal with the fundamental affordability problem: that would take some genuine imagination and innovation which is sadly lacking at every level of government as is an understanding around non-entitlement based retirement income. Shelter has finally come out and realised that we need a functioning rental sector. A shame that the council and most local MPs will just look to legislate even more and demonise us. Many of us also provide holiday accommodation and in the same vein that is also being meddled with.
