We are starting to review the Housing Strategy for Cornwall. The Housing Strategy (see documents) describes what our priorities will be for homes over the next five years and beyond.

Before we prepare a draft strategy for you to look at we would like to ask some more questions about what the main housing challenges you think Cornwall needs to address and what you think the priorities should be moving forwards. Please take some time to answer as many questions as you can in this new survey - link below.

We still want you to tell us what is important to you about homes in Cornwall. You can let us know using the survey link below - or if you want to tell us your housing story use the 'stories' tab and provide more detail.

Many thanks to all of you that filled in our first survey - we had almost 700 responses. The report on responses is available under documents.

Don't worry if you didn't get the chance to fill in this new survey - we will be formally consulting on the draft strategy in the winter as well as adding other questions throughout the consultation to test responses as they come in. If you subscribe to this page we will let you know when changes have been made to this page.

  • Please complete our survey to give your views on the challenges we face around the housing market in Cornwall and what our priorities and objectives should be moving forwards. This survey will close at 5pm on Monday 08/11/2021. It's quite a long survey but please answer as many questions as you can.

Lots of factors affect the demand for homes in the Cornish housing market. It is a beautiful place to live and work and has a growing population as more people move into Cornwall than move out. We fully expect Covid-19 to have an long term impact in terms of where people will choose to live given the ability or necessity of working from home. And Cornwall has a buoyant housing market which makes it an attractive place to invest for developers, second homeowners and holiday accommodation providers.

The benefits of a buoyant housing market are however, not shared equally across our communities. Finding an affordable home in the places residents need or want to live, having security of tenure, rising levels of homelessness and meeting the housing needs of elderly and vulnerable households are amongst the many challenges that are faced. Many residents in our communities are unable to exercise a reasonable degree of choice about their housing circumstances and intervention is needed to support these individuals and to support Cornwall in achieving its ambitions.

We are using this survey to gain your insight into what are the main challenges we face in Cornwall - and therefore what our priorities and objectives should be moving forwards. This feedback will then be used to prepare a new housing strategy which will be available for consultation later this year.
