The aim of the Healthy Streets Falmouth scheme is to reduce traffic and pollution levels in the town centre and create a better environment for all, allowing space for people to move around safely and comfortably. The scheme is also part of the wider ambition to promote sustainable transport and tackle climate change, and make Falmouth a thriving place for the future.
Cornwall Council is using this site to give you opportunities to share your views about the scheme and to keep you informed about progress.
Working with the Town Council and Local Cornwall Councillors as well as pedestrian and cycling groups we plan to make the main streets along Market St, Church St a Pedestrian zone between 11am and 4pm each day.
Between 11am and 4pm the road will only be open to the bus, emergency vehicles and limited residents and permit holders for the car park.
As part of this we are proposing to:
Introduce a vehicle restriction at the beginning of Market St in Falmouth town centre to restrict most motor vehicles from the whole length of Market St, Church St and part of Arwennack St
Install cycle parking at various points of the main street of Falmouth.
This work will be funded through money awarded to Cornwall Council from the Government’s Active Travel Fund.
Our aim is for work on delivering this phase to begin in May 2021 and to be completed by the end of March 2022.
We are seeking the views of local residents, businesses and visitors on these draft proposals.

The traffic restriction is being made using an 'Experimental Traffic Regulation Order'. This gives us the chance to see if and how it is working before making the measure permanent. During the trial period you will have opportunities to provide further feedback.
