Working with Farmers

Farmers and landowners in the Fal catchment have been custodians of this unique landscape for generations. They are passionate about the catchment and its unique characteristics.

Until recent years farmers have been encouraged to intensify to get the most out of every parcel of land. Tough trading markets and external pressures have meant that farmers had to farm hard to make ends meet.

We now know that some modern farming practices can be damaging to the local environment and are not sustainable in the long term - impacting profitability, nature and communities.

The Fal Farm Cluster

We are actively seeking funding from a wide range of sources to assist farmers and landowners in the Fal farm cluster.

We're inviting farmers and landowners to join the farm cluster which aims to support sustainable, profitable farming that also benefits the wider environment.

What the Cluster Offers?

Subject to funding we will be able to offer cluster members:

• Funding to get real stuff done - water storage, hedges, scrapes, ponds, orchards and equipment like electric fencing and drag troughs, maize solutions and soil improvement.
• Free farm resilience and technical support plans.
• Workshops - topics covering animal health, soils, first aid, profitability and diversification, mental health etc.
• Whatsapp Group with alerts from around the estuary
• Access to machinery ring - containing equipment that aids soil health and reduces run-off.

By joining the cluster you are not signing up to be involved in anything that you do not want to, but we would hope the many benefits mean there is something for everyone.
