Newquay's Visitor Charter: Be More Newquay

Following the initial visitor charter workshop session attended by local stakeholders, a draft visitor charter has been compiled to include the key topics discussed. It is very much a draft and there will be various iterations, as we progress and gather feedback across the wider network, until we collectively decide on the final version that the town adopts.

As part of the initial feedback process, we kindly ask you to review and comment on the first draft, which is made up of five ‘invitations’ that encourage people to sustainably engage with the town.

Firstly, please read the visitor charter (shorter version) in its totality below. Following this, you will be shown each invitation individually and asked to comment on it specifically.

It should take around 10-15 minutes to complete and you have until Friday 8th December to complete. If you have any questions or would like to see the longer version of the charter, please email experiencenewquay@cornwall.gov.uk

NEWQUAY'S DRAFT VISITOR CHARTER  (short version)

1: BE WILD (environment)

We live on the very edge; it speaks to the wildness in us all; come and reconnect with the wildness while you’re here, and leave it unharmed and beautiful for your next visit. We’ll look after it for you.

2: BE CURIOUS (cultural & social)

We write, sing and paint; we make and we play, we are poets and troubadours and performers. Our lives in Newquay are yours to share; be curious and creative and come play with us while you’re here.

3: BE KIND (looking after others, ourselves & place)

We work hard and can’t wait to welcome you; we expect and welcome kindness from each other, and towards our extraordinary place, and welcome the same response from our guests. Find ways to be kind to all forms of life around you; like our cherished landscapes, a tiny bit of kindness goes for miles and miles.

4: BE CIRCULAR (local economy, local people)

Buy local. Buy delicious and beautiful and of this place. Stay local. Share our lives with us while you’re here, and make your every impact a positive one.

5: BE CONNECTED (behave as you would like to be treated by others)

Be respectful, be connected, be open-minded: be barefoot and care-free. Tread lightly. Connect with all the things we have to share with you: we can show you how to find the open spaces, the quiet places, the hidden spaces to find the view, your breath and your peace.

NB Several of these points are interchangeable, but the suggested headings will allow local businesses to bring their own detail, and/or add specific examples where a call to action is explicit.

Bear in mind: this is a destination management tool, not a marketing tool per se, but can be used to contribute to marketing. Its point is to encourage a particular set of behaviours, and make sure people who have them know they are welcome.
