One of Cornwall Council’s main priorities is to make sure everyone in Cornwall can start well, live well and age well in vibrant, safe and supportive communities. Communities that everyone belongs to and feels connected to, where no one is invisible or left behind.

The priority reflects the Council’s commitment to work with communities and to test new approaches to wellbeing, prevention activities and social care, which help people age well in their own home. It builds on the fantastic community action Cornwall saw during the pandemic, encouraging our residents to help each other live well and reduce the need for care.

We will focus on enabling people to lead independent and fulfilled lives through a shift towards prevention, and a co-ordinated equal partnership between people, families, the voluntary sector and statutory service providers. Watch the Delivering Better Care animation to find out more about our new transformation programme.

Over the past years we have been talking to people about the services they provide and they receive. Based on what you told us and after analysing data, policies and trends we have drafted two new adult social care strategies: Maximising Independence and Better Lives which form our Adult Social Care Commissioning Strategy for 2022 – 2026. Our collective vision is to ensure that people can get the right care, in the right place at the right time to help, prevent, reduce or delay the need for ongoing support and maximise their independence.

The strategy for ‘Maximising Independence’ is our universal offer for people who use adult social care services. The primary focus of this strategy will be support for older people and people with physical disabilities and/or sensory loss.

The strategy for ‘Better Lives’ focuses on support for people with learning disabilities, neurodiversity and poor mental health.

Please read the draft strategies and the supporting documents. The new updated versions will be available here soon so watch this space.
