Full Description of Curriculum Kernewek
Purpose of Study
Curriculum Kernewek seeks to broaden the ways of viewing Cornwall and to broaden the ways of thinking about the Cornish experience. Curriculum Kernewek helps pupils to understand and celebrate the distinctive quality of living and learning in Cornwall in the twenty-first century, to identify their own sense of being Cornish, to enable them to understand and to challenge the ‘anglicisation’ of Cornwall and the Cornish and to therefore feel a heightened sense of belonging to their local community and the Duchy. It also helps to foster in pupils an understanding of Cornwall’s history as an outwardlooking and international Cornwall, promoting global citizenship and a concern for sustainable development. Curriculum Kernewek seeks to: challenge the prevalent paradigms; to uncover the hidden history of Cornish experience in the past; to validate Cornish experience in the present; and to empower Cornish people for the future. This will be done in ways that are honest, outward-looking, inclusive and constructive.
This questionnaire enables stakeholders to support the development of Curriculum Kernewek by providing an opportunity to comment on, add to, or amend the principles, purposes and aims that sit behind Curriculum Kernewek, as well as the specific knowledge content that it seeks develop in learners as they progress through the programmes of study.
Feedback from this questionnaire will enable the design team who are curating Curriculum Kernewk to identify, within each big idea of the curriculum, the core, enduring knowledge that we want all learners across Cornwall to take away with them as lifelong learning; as well as where individual settings have scope, within guiding parameters, to add colour, depth and a local element to their offer, through less prescriptive knowledge.
