Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Nature Recovery Strategy
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly is in the midst of a climate and ecological emergency. Nature plays a vital role in responding to each of these challenges and we need to take urgent action to help nature recover.
The Nature Recovery Strategy has been created in partnership with the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership, along with the Isles of Scilly National Landscape Partnership. It is a statutory strategy that has been locally led and developed over 18 months. It has been shaped by thousands of local views from environment professionals, farmers and growers, foresters, biological recorders, local businesses, Town and Parish Councils and others though a series of workshops, surveys, events and consultation.
30 by 30 and the Nature Recovery Strategy
The strategy provides guidance to support delivery of nature recovery across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly so that we can have more nature which is bigger, better and joined up. This will help us all to meet our local target of 30% of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly's land, rivers and seas being well-managed for nature by 2030.

Explore the Nature Recovery Network maps
An important part of the strategy are the interactive maps. These maps have been developed to help you understand where existing designations occur across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and, importantly, which areas can we best take action to help restore nature. These consist of two zones:
The maps have been co-produced with the University of Exeter, working with the Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS) and the Cornish Biodiversity Network and our biological recording community.

How to Use the Nature Recovery Strategy
The Nature Recovery Strategy is a tool that can be used by that con be used by anyone and everyone to help identify the best actions we can take to help restore nature across the region. We advise following the below steps to help fully engage with the nature recovery strategy and understand our vision for the region.

We have also developed a suite of tools to help you better understand and engage with the strategy and mapping. Many of these tools can be found within the strategy document but can also be found here.
- If you are developing a project, consider reading our Best Practice Guide to help shape your plans and prepare for the future.
- Some of the language used within the strategy and mapping can be challenging, and has been newly introduced as a part of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy process - we've developed a Jargon Buster to help you better understand these terms.
- The strategy has strong links to mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements. We've explored what that means and how to use the strategy can be used to help deliver for BNG in our explainer document.
