Improving Access and Resilience in the Red River Valley LNR in 2026

Delivering the Red River Vision

During 2026, improvement works at Red River Valley Nature Reserve will enhance access, resilience and visitor experience while supporting the long-term objectives of the Red River Vision. These projects will improve key walking, cycling and horse-riding routes, reconnect parts of the reserve currently inaccessible to visitors, and help ensure infrastructure is more resilient to future flooding events. All improvements have been designed to balance public access with the protection of the valley's wildlife, habitats and landscape character.

Improving resilience of access routes

Following winter flooding, a key section of bridleway between Kieve Mill and Menadarva has been upgraded using more resilient materials. The surface improvements will provide safer year-round access for walkers, cyclists and horse riders while helping the route withstand future flood events.

Additional work along the route has improved drainage and restored the full width of the bridleway, providing a better experience for all users

Boardwalks

New boardwalks are planned to be installed at two locations during 2026, restoring access to popular routes and improving connections between key areas of the reserve. The boardwalk near Bell Lake will reconnect routes towards Kehelland and Treswithian, while the boardwalk at Reskadinnick, funded through the Camborne Town Deal programme, will reopen an important riverside section of the valley path network.
