Installation of new footway area to facilitate existing southbound bus stop on New Road.

What are we consulting on?

A new section of footway is proposed on the northern side of the existing bus shelter. This new footway will:

  • Connect eastward to the existing footway.
  • Extend westward to New Road, giving access to the southbound bus stop on New Road.

To manage surface water runoff from the new footway, the design includes an infiltration trench, which will help prevent surface water ponding.

Why are we doing this?

The proposed footway area is designed to provide a safe and accessible space for pedestrians to wait for southbound buses. It will:

  • Connect directly to the existing bus shelter and bus stand, ensuring seamless pedestrian movement.
  • Improve passenger convenience and safety by offering a dedicated waiting area adjacent to the bus stop.

The location has been identified as requiring improvements due to:

  • Lack of a designated waiting area for passengers using the southbound bus stop.
  • Difficulty accessing the bus, particularly for those with mobility challenges or during adverse weather conditions.

Next steps

Once the Consultation finishes we will collect the feedback and traffic data to decide what to do next.
