Cornwall Council has a number of responsibilities for arranging and buying social care to meet people’s needs. In the future we would like to arrange your care in a way that focuses less on tasks and more on your individual outcomes, supporting you to achieve the goals you have chosen and to do things for yourself wherever possible.

In Cornwall, we face a number of challenges, which include Cornwall’s rural geography, as well as having enough care staff, accommodation.

At the moment, we support about 2,370 people with home care services but there are 450 people waiting for the care they need at home. Although this situation has improved significantly we want to make sure that people always have the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

We would like your ideas about how to make sure everyone has access to the care they need. We would like to understand what is important to you and how willing and able you are to be flexible in how your care is delivered.

When we talk about your social care outcomes, we mean:

  • Being able to access the food and drink you want and need to be as healthy as possible
  • Being able to wash your body and your clothes and bedding
  • Being able to access the toilet and manage your personal care in the bathroom
  • Being able to get dressed in a way that you think is suitable for the activities you are doing during the day
  • Being able to move around your home safely including climbing stairs, using the kitchen, accessing the bathroom
  • Being able to clean and maintain your home, making sure you have water, electricity, gas and can pay your bills
  • Being able to maintain relationships with your friends, family and community
  • Being able to contribute to society through work, education or training
  • Being able to get around the community safely including accessing public transport, shops, recreation
  • Being able to fulfil your caring roles including being a parent, grandparent etc.

    Care worker survey

    Please complete our short survey to give your views on being a care worker. The survey will run until 10 July 2023.

    Please note this survey is intended for members of the care at home workforce - This specifically means employed care workers, not informal carers such as family members who help to care for a loved one.

    Carers and service user stakeholder groups in addition to workshops will be taking place over the next few months, from May until September. This will ensure we have rounded and comprehensive input from all stakeholders.

    The feedback we are currently receiving will enable us to shape the development of the new re-procurement programme as we go on. This will be a live process that will respond to comments and views from the stakeholders as we progress the journey.
