Decision Following Consultation.

Thank you for your interest in our consultation.

There was a balanced response to the scheme with support and objection.

Objections focused mainly on concerns about existing infrastructure in Bodmin, and the cumulative risks of new development intensifying congestion and pressure on services. Additionally, some respondents opposed the proposed 40mph limit, favouring a continuous 30mph; stating that new traffic lights would increase congestion.

Concerns about infrastructure provision and the cumulative impact of new developments are matters that have been fully considered by Cornwall Council as part of the planning application process. Furthermore, the design, has undergone Technical Approval, and is based on a 40mph speed limit. Reducing the limit further to 30mph would not align with Department for Transport guidance due to the absence of frontage development of other visual cues necessary to support a lower limit and would be likely to result in poor levels of driver compliance.

After consideration of all responses received, it has been resolved that the scheme shall be implemented as advertised.

As this is a Developer led scheme, we cannot provide an indication of the approximate time of completion. Please note that any new restrictions will not come into effect until all the necessary works have been carried out on site.

What are we consulting on?

We would like to hear your views on some planned changes linked to the new housing developments on Priory Road, Bodmin. We are proposing to introduce a set of safety measures. These include new signal‑controlled pedestrian and toucan crossings, extra double yellow line parking restrictions at the entrance to the new development, and a new 40mph speed limit.

Why are we doing this?

These changes are designed to help manage traffic and make the roads safer in the area. They are being suggested because the new housing developments will bring more cars, cyclists and people walking. The aim is to improve safety for everyone, especially those who are more at risk, by adding safer places to cross the road, stopping cars from parking in ways that block junctions, and slowing down traffic on Priory Road.
