Cornwall-wide actions

Cornwall Council proposes a series of actions to improve air quality across the county. These include

  • ongoing monitoring of traffic and air pollutants
  • promoting awareness of air quality issues
  • improving public access to air quality information
  • encouraging sustainable mixed-use development through policy guidance.
  • working with employers and schools to develop and monitor travel plans, manage parking effectively, and improve walking and cycling environments.

A major initiative, the ‘One Public Transport’ project, seeks to enhance bus and rail services.

Additional measures focus on:

  • promoting low-emission transport by improving vehicle standards in council procurement
  • minimizing emissions from local business fleets,
  • introducing car clubs.

The council also plans to encourage alternative fuels, investigate emission standards for taxis, and engage with the NHS to raise awareness of air quality impacts.
