Cornwall Council tenants and leaseholders consulted on the future management of council housing in Cornwall
What was the consultation about?
Tenants and leaseholders responded to a consultation about the future management of their homes by the Council owned company Cornwall Housing. Cornwall Housing have managed the council housing in Cornwall since 2011 and before awarding a new contract the Council sought tenant and leaseholders views.
Consultation results summary
1098 households took part, which is 10.73% of our tenants and leaseholders. We engaged an independent organisation (Altair) to collate the results and feedback.
In the feedback:
71% clearly supported the proposal
4% clearly opposed the proposal
25% responses were unclear about their position on the proposal – mostly negative comments about current services, but also requests for service, and views about services which were both positive and negative.
There is a link for the full Altair Report ‘Tenant Consultation response’ on this page in the section called Important Documents.
We have reviewed every comment and as a result of the overall support the Council will commence the process to enter into a new management agreement with Cornwall Housing. We will now start drafting the contract and hope to go live in the Autumn.
Next steps
There is still some work to do to finalise the details and make the final decision about this new agreement with Cornwall Housing. Our timeline is:
Further consider how the comments and feedback can help shape the contract with Cornwall Housing – May/June
Review of the proposed final contract by key partners – June/July
Meeting with the Social Housing Regulator, who have to agree a Management Agreement for council housing.
A further update in tenants’ newsletter about final outcome and how tenants’ feedback influenced the details of the plans – Sept/Oct
