Consultation has concluded

Cornwall Council plays a big part in people’s lives, and every year, we spend over a billion pounds providing public services that you, your family and your friends use every day. We are told how much money we have and then we need to decide how best to spend it. We’d like your feedback about our plans for next years budget and the priorities we are focussing on.

The challenges

The council is facing some big financial challenges. We had to spend more money because of the pandemic to make sure the most vulnerable people were supported and protected. This, along with a growing population, people living longer and people needing different types of services, means we have higher costs.

The Budget

We are working hard to make sure we have enough money to deliver services and we have to put together a budget to last for the next four years.

Our Mission

To help us do this, we have set a mission to work with communities for a carbon neutral Cornwall, where everyone can start well, live well and age well.

Our Priorities

We have four priorities, shaped by our residents and young people to make Cornwall:

  • A brilliant place to be a child and grow up
  • In a thriving, sustainable Cornwall that offers a secure home, a decent income and a great environment for all
  • With vibrant, safe, supportive communities where people help each other live well
  • All supported by an empowering and enterprising Council that delivers great value for money

In our draft budget, we have suggested that we move money from areas that contribute less to the new priority outcomes.

Please take the time to fill out two surveys, one about our draft budget and the other, about our Business Plan priorities. Please feel free to complete it with help from your friends, family or teachers.
