Truro, Infirmary Hill: New Bus Stops.

Outcome 

Thank you for participating in the recent consultation on a proposal to introduce new bus stops along Infirmary Hill, Truro. 

The consultation responses highlight wider concerns relating to parking provision, disabled access, patient drop-off arrangements and general congestion around Truro Health Park. These concerns are acknowledged and it is clear that there are existing parking pressures within and around the site. However, whilst these are important matters they fall outside the scope of this proposal and would need to be considered separately.

The primary objective of this scheme is to address the operational difficulties currently experienced by bus services serving Truro Health Park. Evidence from bus operators indicates that unlawful and inconsiderate parking in Tresawya Drive/within the turning area is causing significant delays and adversely affecting the reliability of services. Relocating the bus stops to Infirmary Hill removes the need for buses to enter that area and provides a more resilient arrangement for public transport users.

In response to concerns regarding the potential impact on Blue Badge parking near the Health Park's main entrance, the proposed bus stop locations have been revised to minimise this impact as far as practicable while still achieving the scheme's objectives, as shown on drawing - SN13_SAR.

While the concerns raised during the consultation are acknowledged, the need to address the operational difficulties affecting bus services means that the new bus stops will be implemented as soon as practicable.

We are proposing new bus stops on Infirmary Hill.

What are we consulting on?

It is proposed to introduce new inbound and outbound stops on Infirmary Hill, adjacent to the Three Spires entrance to the Health Park.

This change is intended to improve the reliability and punctuality of bus services, which currently experience delays of up to 30 minutes in some cases. It will also ensure continued access to essential health services for those who rely on public transport and will provide a safer and more consistent stopping arrangement for buses operating in the area.

Why are we doing this?

The Council’s Transport Coordination Service are aware of the ongoing disruption to Truro City Bus Services over the last 12 months. Currently, buses serving the stop at the entrance to Lander Medical Practice use the turning area immediately outside the building.

However, frequent instances of inconsiderate and obstructive parking in this area are preventing buses from manoeuvring safely and efficiently. As a result, services are experiencing daily delays when access to the turning area is restricted.
