Truro, Ferris Town: Pedestrian Crossing and Parking Restrictions.
We are proposing to add a Pedestrian Crossing at Ferris Town and update the current Parking Restrictions along Ferris Town.
What are we consulting on?
o provide an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing at Ferris Town connecting the northern footway adjacent to the Ferris Town/St George's Road junction to the southern footway. The crossing will include tactile paving and a coloured surface to highlight the crossing point and make it more visible to vehicles.
The change to the parking restrictions will be an extension to the existing “No Loading” markings to cover Ferris Town during the peak times.
This extension will also expand to 7 days a week, instead of the existing Monday to Saturday restriction. The no loading restriction will be between 08:30am and 09:15am and 16:30pm and 18:00pm.
Why are we doing this?
The pedestrian crossing will provide a connection walking from the Train Station to the City Centre, improving safety and formalising the currently often used crossing point. This location will create a safer option than existing options at the Ferris Town/St George’s Road/Frances Street junction.
Ferris Town is part of Truro’s busy western A390 corridor linking Truro city centre with Treliske, Truro College and destinations in the west of Cornwall.
Up to 30 buses per hour are scheduled through Ferris Town at peak times. The relatively narrow road on Ferris Town means that any vehicles stopping can cause severe congestion leading to increased journey time for buses and an increase in air pollution from idling vehicles.
The parking restrictions will help to improve the route for buses, by reducing disruptions due to parked vehicles during the peak times. This will also help to improve the flow of traffic along this road, reducing obstructions and improving the environment for all road users.
