Cornwall Council, with the support of City Science, delivered Supplier 'Emissions Measurement and Reduction' workshop during April and May 2025.
The resources from these sessions can be accessed from this webpage.
These sessions were provided to support Cornwall Council suppliers with the practical and policy tools to become more competitive in the tendering environment.
Cornwall Council has committed to achieving carbon neutrality well ahead of the UK Government’s 2050 target. A critical part of this commitment is the Council leading by example to decarbonise emissions arising from our own operations, which are categorised into three scopes:
Scope 1: Direct emissions from sources we control, such as vehicles and heating.
Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity.
Scope 3: Indirect emissions from our supply chain, including the goods and services provided by valued suppliers.
The largest share of Cornwall Council’s carbon footprint comes from Scope 3 supply chain emissions. To support a reduction of these emissions, the Council is developing a supplier engagementinitiative to collaborate with our suppliers, helping them to measure and reduce their own emissions. This will give supplier organisations the practical and policy tools to support greater competitiveness in the tendering environment as well as potentially reducing both emissions and associated costs.
