Mid Cornwall Metro: Bugle & Roche
The proposals aim to make access to Bugle and Roche stations easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and to improve Victoria Square at Roche.
Public Engagement
As part of the formal statutory consultation process, we are pleased to invite you to a public drop-in session where the up to date drawings and descriptions of the proposed improvements will be available.
Taking place on Monday 15th September at Roche Victory Hall from 10:30am to 6:30pm, the project team will be available to answer any questions and you’ll be able to formally provide your feedback.
The Statutory Consultation Survey is now open and is found at the bottom of the page. The deadline for responses is 24 September 2025.
In Roche, we are inviting comments on a proposal to change Victoria Business Park Bridge near Roche Station, Victoria Road, the mini roundabout at Victoria road and Edgecombe Road, the mini roundabout between Fore Street and Trezaise Road (outside St Gomonda’s Church). In addition there proposed traffic calming on the northern side of Trezaise.
In Bugle, we are inviting comments on proposed improvements to pedestrian facilities and provide traffic calming in Bugle along Fore Street.
What are we consulting on?
Roche:
- At station approach, the route over the bridge will be restricted to buses and cycles only. This will include changing the kerbs to stop turning from Station approach towards Roche.
- Between Roche Station and Pentre close, a virtual footway will be added, and a single carriageway will be introduced. This single carriageway will be restricted to buses, cycles and access.
- Between Pentre Close and the existing mini roundabout, Kerb locations along footpaths will be adjusted to both narrow the road to help reduce speed and increase footway widths to aid pedestrians.
- For the existing mini roundabout at Victoria Square between Fore Street, Edgcumbe Road and Victoria Road, this will become a priority junction. Kerbs will be moved to suit, and street furniture will be added.
- For the mini roundabout outside St Gomonda’s Church, between Fore Street and Trezaise Road, this will be moved to the northeast slightly to allow for better footpath provision outside of the park entrance. Tabletop ramps with Pedestrian crossings will be added at each arm, as well as to the south of the Trezaise Road Layby.
- In addition a new priority give way island is proposed on the northern entrance to Trezaise.
Bugle:
- Narrow the junction entry to New Street and installation of “No Entry” to provide an improved pedestrian crossing.
- Narrowing of areas of Fore Street to widen the existing footway between the New Street junction and Bugle School entrance.
- Narrowing the carriageway, outside number 7 Station Road, to widen the existing footway and provide a priority give way at the new symmetrical narrowing.
Both schemes will include proposed reductions in speed limits.
Why are we doing this?
The Mid Cornwall Metro rail service improvements will mean more people will be traveling between Falmouth and Newquay, including the existing stations between Par and Newquay. We therefore want to make access to Bugle and Roche stations easier and safer for public transport users, pedestrians and cyclists. As part of this project, there are also proposed changes to Victoria Sq. and Saint Gomonda's Church roundabout to improve pedestrian access through the junctions.
