Why are we proposing changes?
The Mid Cornwall Metro rail service improvements will mean more people will be traveling between Falmouth and Newquay, including the existing stations between Par and Newquay.
We therefore want to make access to Bugle and Roche stations easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists, and to improve Victoria Square at Roche, making it a more attractive place to spend time.
What is Mid Cornwall Metro?
Mid Cornwall Metro is a £56.8m scheme, largely funded through the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. Rail improvements to be delivered through the scheme include a direct hourly train service connecting Falmouth, Penryn, Truro, St Austell, Par and Newquay. Most of the works to enable this to happen are on the Newquay to Par line and include the re-introduction of a second platform at Newquay Train Station, an improved interchange at Par and a new passing loop at Tregoss Moor which will allow for increased frequency of trains between the main line and Newquay.
A key feature of the Mid Cornwall Metro programme is improving accessibility to Penryn and Newquay train stations on the route by sustainable, active means – by foot and by cycle. For more information, please visit the Mid Cornwall Metro website
Public Engagement
The designs are at the feasibility stage and have been consulted on with Roche and Treverbyn Parish Councils.
Cormac hosted engagement events for residents and businesses in Bugle and Roche to show everyone the project and get their views. Preliminary engineering drawings were on display, together with an outline works programme and an interactive Virtual Reality experience, incorporating a hot-air balloon flyover of the Newquay to Par rail line and the proposed improvements to Bugle and Roche, showing people what they can expect to see and how it might affect them - with an opportunity to give us feedback and let us know thoughts and suggestions.
The events took place on:
Thursday 27th February at Bugle Village Hall from 10.30am to 5.30pm
Friday 28th February at Roche Victory Hall Social Club from 10.30am to 6.30pm
You can still provide us with your feedback about the proposals by completing the survey below by 16 March 2025.
