We are planning on relocating the two existing bus stops and improving the pedestrian crossing facilities on Trevenson Road near East Hill Junction.

What are we consulting on?

The two bus stops adjacent to East Hill Junction are proposed to be relocated further east. The eastbound stop will be moved closer to the mini roundabout on Trevenson Road, while the westbound stop will be re positioned just east of the mini roundabout. Both relocated bus stops will receive new black coloured shelters, seating, a timetable case, a bracket for bus stop flag sign and a live bus departure information.

Additionally, all four pedestrian crossings surrounding the mini roundabout will be upgraded with tactile paving and, where necessary, re positioned to improve pedestrian accessibility and the crossing routes.

Why are we doing this?

Relocating the bus stops further east of the East Hill Junction is expected to improve bus journey times and reduce delays caused by buses stopping near the traffic lights. By moving the stops away from the traffic light junction, a system called Traffic Signal Priority (TSP) can work more effectively.

TSP uses real-time bus location data to help give buses a green light when they need it, helping them stay on time.

As part of the improvements, tactile paving will also be added to the nearby pedestrian crossings. This will make it safer and easier for everyone—especially people with visual impairments—to cross the road and access the relocated bus stops and local businesses.

Next steps

The consultation period runs from 15th May to 5th June 2025. If no one has any major objections, we will move on to the construction phase and aim to complete this by the Autumn of 2025.
