About the Project
Cornwall Council are undertaking a study to evaluate options for a grade separated junction in the vicinity of the A30 Plusha/ B3257 junction. The Study is an essential first step in order to develop a scheme and associated business case to secure funding from Department for Transport and eventual implementation in partnership with National Highways.
The current junction involves vehicles crossing the central reservation of the A30 dual carriageway to access the services and surrounding local network. This brings drivers turning across the dual carriageway into conflict with the high speed through traffic on the A30, resulting in a history of serious collisions. There have been long-standing calls for a fully grade separated junction at this location to prevent these types of collisions and improve safety on this section of the A30.
In response to a number of tragic accidents at this location National Highways (who are responsible for the A30 trunk road) have implemented an interim scheme to restrict turning movements at the ‘at grade’ Plusha junction. This follows the wider ‘A30 Kennards House to Five Lanes road safety improvements’ feasibility Study which focuses on low-cost, short-term improvements on this section of the A30.
Our study will build on the recent National Highways feasibility study and extensive work previously done on design options for a fully grade separated junction.
Aims of the Project
The Aim of the Study is to identify the preferred option for a grade separated junction on the A30 in the vicinity of Plusha that addresses the long-standing road safety and local connectivity concerns.
To ensure the preferred option has the best chance of being funded and subsequently delivered, it is also essential that this option:
is cost-effective, meets the appropriate design standards and provides the strongest possible business case for the scheme.
has the broad support of National Highways, key local stakeholders and landowners.
The Study Area
The study area will be the same as that used by National Highways for the A30 Kennards House to Five Lanes road safety study:
We will use this page to keep you informed of progress and to ask for your views as the Study progresses.
