Cornwall Council has teamed up with the University of Bath and the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) to carry out research into what influences the lifestyles and habits of people living in Cornwall.
We are undertaking a survey to understand residents’ travel, energy use and shopping choices.
Anyone living in Cornwall and aged 16 or over can fill in the online survey, which takes about 15 minutes to complete.
Respondents will be asked questions about their everyday behaviours around travel, diet, products they buy, household energy use and their attitudes towards climate change.
At the end of the survey participants will be asked if they would be interested in taking part in a paid group discussion at a later date.
The information provided will be used by the research team and Cornwall Council to understand the views of people living in Cornwall and all data collected is anonymous and confidential.
Professor Lorraine Whitmarsh said: “In order to improve quality of life and tackle issues like climate change, we need to understand what’s important to people and how the Council can support them. This survey asks residents about their views, habits and what might enable them change their behaviour. It’s an important way to give a voice to people in Cornwall in decision-making about their area and the Council’s climate plans."
Councillor Martyn Alvey, Cornwall’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “This survey will help us understand residents’ travel habits, household energy use, food and shopping choices and attitudes towards climate change and will help us in supporting Cornwall to become carbon neutral. We’re delighted that the University of Bath and the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations are leading on this research.”
Taking part in this study is entirely voluntary and respondents are free to withdraw at any time before completing the survey by closing their browsers.
All respondents have the option of being entered into a prize draw to win one of ten £50 gift vouchers.
Respondents choosing to enter the prize draw or who would like to take part in the group discussion will be asked for their email address and contact details will be stored separately from survey data so responses cannot be identified. Email addresses will be permanently deleted within 14 days of the study completion.
