Following extensive development with schools and local authorities, a new National Framework for Penalty Notices for school absence is being introduced through changes to secondary legislation. These regulations will come into effect from 19 August 2024.
Local authorities must consult with schools and the police regarding the new local code of conduct. The Department of Education (DfE) have advised that the areas for consultation relate only to points within the framework that are subject to local discretion. As a result, this consultation has been developed around the areas for local discretion.
The deadline for responses is Friday 12 July 2024. If you have any questions about the consultation or new National Framework, please email ross.terris@cornwall.gov.uk
