So called "affordable housing"
Me and my partner live in a modest 1 bedroom flat and barely manage to save a deposit for a house. We have a combined wage of £50k per year and on this income we could get a mortgage of £160k which is fair. With deposit the max we could afford is £180k and the so called "affordable housing" starts at £280k in my area and that's not even the cheapest starting price in the affordable marking bracket. Wages are low in Cornwall and the house prices are far too expensive so for first time buyers there's little option but to struggle on and rent for life which is also shockingly expensive considering the average income in cornwall. Affordable housing should be affordable for the lowest average income otherwise it's clearly not affordable.
