Cornwall's Future
This forum is a good idea but in practice what is being done to address people's comments and "worries" The burning agenda for the Council seems to be a greener future and indeed the Council is taking steps to reduce it's carbon footprint at the expense of it's employees adding to theirs and visitors sending it sky high with their fuel guzzling vehicles. A good many comments on this forum want the issues of second homes and associated non-paying of Council tax addressed, a tourist tax investigated, affordable homes for our young people and the sale of properties for locals only. Second home owners take advantage of our services without paying for the privilege which the residents of Cornwall pay high taxes for. We need investment into employment for our young people, not just seasonal employment. Residents cannot take advantage of the lovely weather we've had owing to the amount of visitors here, beach car parking and toilet facilities, which we pay for, not be available to us. Where is all the discussion on these issues? I don't see it so why ask what we want for Cornwall. There is a place for tourism yes but not to the cost of local people. We are told by Graham Bell of Visit Cornwall that because of lockdown we are now imaging the crowding of our local beaches and towns - what an insult! Come on Cornwall Council address what you are being asked to address and not what is on your leader's agendas. I also totally agree it is immoral to take the salaries you are offering when we are in such financial restraints. We need you to work with us to address these issues and then we can look at the Council's greener future.
