Newlyn, Old Bridge: Prohibition of Motor Vehicles Trial
We are proposing to prohibit the use of vehicles on the Old Bridge in Newlyn.
What are we consulting on?
We want to know what you think about the plan to create a traffic-free pedestrian and cyclist route that would bypass the central junction area.
This would be done by blocking motor vehicles to the bridge with the use of planters and benches.
Why are we doing this?
Following a previous public consultation for the wider Newlyn town centre proposals, concerns were raised around closing the bridge to motor traffic, largely around the effect on traffic flow. Therefore this trial will help to ascertain the actual effect of the proposal.
The trial will be implemented via a special Traffic Order (known as an Experimental Traffic Order (ETO), which will allow us to gauge the success of the design.
To view details of the scheme & the legal Experimental Traffic Order, please visit our Appyway Platform (Link will be located on the right, under Traffic Order Details).
Next steps
This proposal is initially being implemented as a trial, using temporary street furniture to prevent vehicle access. Only after the trial has been in place for a minimum of 6 months will a final decision be made on whether to make permanent.
The trial will start on the 29th May 2025 and conclude on the 28th November 2025.
