We think it’s better when the gritters have a good name behind them. So, earlier this year, we asked residents to submit their family-friendly Cornish-themed suggestions to Cornwall Council.
We were blown away by the amazing response to naming our gritting fleet. With 2,266 entries, it was not easy to whittle them down to 50. But after careful consideration, we did it, and then it was your turn to pick the top 25. You could vote for your favourites until Thursday 11 April.
Following more than 2,700 votes, we can reveal Cornwall’s top 25:
1 – Mevagritty
2 - Proper Job

7 - RNAS Cold Nose
8 - The Gritterman’s Friends

Cormac’s gritters treated almost 35,000 miles of roads across Cornwall between October and March this year – that’s almost one and half times around the equator.
Now that they have returned from their summer hibernation, the gritters with their new names are ready once more for action.
We are grateful to everyone who shared their creative suggestions and participated in the vote. Thank you all for your contributions.
