Empowering Local Communities - local groups

Cornwall Council and our Local Nature Partnership recently declared an Ecological Emergency in response to steep declines in nature across Cornwall. We will be developing a blueprint for a Nature Recovery Network in 2022 through a Local Nature Recovery Strategy. To help us, we want to understand you and your community’s role more clearly.

Local community groups across Cornwall are invited to take part in a project about empowering local communities to help nature recovery. These include charities, not-for-profit organisations, and ‘friends of’ and community groups.

Enabling nature’s recovery is a fundamental response to the climate and ecological emergency – and alongside local councils, local groups have a role to play in its restoration. As part of the ‘Empowering Local Communities’ project, we want to find out how local groups view their role in delivering nature recovery. In this survey we ask what local groups are doing for nature– and what barriers prevent them from taking action.

Outputs from the project will be used to inform nature recovery in Cornwall and beyond. The project aligns to a range of strategic priorities for Cornwall. This includes the Carbon Neutral Action Plan, the Environmental Growth Strategy, and the emerging Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

This survey will take approx. 10 mins to complete. No prior knowledge of nature recovery is required for this survey and there are no right or wrong answers. More than one response per group may be submitted. We are interested in hearing the views of as many different groups as possible – so whether yours is a small, informal collective with limited functions or an established group covering a large area with numerous members, please do share your views.

This survey closes on Friday 18th February 2022.
