We are proposing to remove the tree from the roundabout by Tesco in Camborne, so that we can carry out hard landscaping works.

What are we consulting on?
As a part of the recent changes to section 115 of the Environment Act 2021 (which inserted S96A into the Highways Act 1980), the local highways authority must consult members of the public (“Duty to Consult”) before felling any tree on an urban road (a “street tree”).
The proposal is to removal all vegetation from the roundabout including the mature ash tree in order to provide improved visibility through the roundabout and to the adjacent pedestrian crossings.
Reason for removal
To enable highways improvement works, as part of the Kerrier Way Green space project. a tree survey was carried out on the roundabout in 2023, and again in 2025. The ash was identified to be in poor condition with ash die-back, with a predicted life span of less than 10 years. The reason for consultation is for the safe removal of the ash tree to facilitate a re-landscaping of the roundabout.
The proposal includes hard landscaping of the centre of the roundabout to reduce future maintenance. The hard landscaping will consist of two restored half sections of the South Crofty New Cook’s Kitchen sheave wheels to be donated by Cornish Metals. The wheels will be mounted upright and surrounded with small granite boulders and granite setts to border the sheave wheels. Up-lighters will be used to illuminate the installation in the hours of darkness. Below is a sketched plan view of the proposal.
Proposed Replacement Planting
Due to the nature of the proposed works, replacement in the same location isn't feasible. However, new planting has been undertaken in the newly created public spaces either side of Kerrier Way.
