Seafood Cornwall responds to lockdown with #FishToYourDoor scheme
Lockdown brought with it a fair amount of uncertainty but it also presented opportunities for businesses to adapt. In the case of the fishing industry, many fishers were still working hard at sea, but with a dwindling number of buyers for their catch, we at Seafood Cornwall knew something needed to be done.
#FishToYourDoor was launched as a direct response to lockdown life, and match-makes fish merchants and fishmongers with potential buyers in Cornwall and beyond. Within the first week of launching, we had over 1000 enquiries from interested customers! Fast forward a couple of months, and over 5000 connections have been made between Cornish fish merchants, and consumers keen to buy their seafood.
“A ray of sunshine to have a source of food coming to our door at this time.” - Fish to your door customer
The brilliance of #FishToYourDoor is it also breaks down barriers at a time when people are craving personal communication more than ever. There's no middle man. No unnecessary road miles. Customers simply pick up the phone, and have a good ole' chinwag with their local fisherman as they order fresh seafood. That's what community is all about anyway!
Community spirit is at the heart of both Seafood Cornwall and Cornish life. It's been incredible to not only deliver joy in the form of fresh fish to customers at home during lockdown, but to support Cornwall's coastal communities first hand.
We're excited to continue this initiative and sense of community even after lockdown has lifted! The mammoth list of #FishToYourDoor merchants and fishmongers can be found on the Seafood Cornwall website. ⠀
