Independent Advocacy
Cornwall Council, the Council of the Isles of Scilly and the NHS are working together to design future Independent Advocacy support for people of all ages. We can’t do this alone. We want to hear from those with an interest in people’s rights and voice; residents, family members and carers, community groups, professionals, and providers.
Independent Advocacy helps you have your say, understand your rights, and be fully involved in decisions about your life. Advocates are independent, they work for you, not for the Council, the NHS, or any other service.
Health and care systems can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming. Whether you’re dealing with social care, health treatment, mental health support, being in care or leaving care, safeguarding, or raising a concern or complaint, advocacy can help make sure you are listened to and understood.
This project is reviewing how advocacy works now and identifying what needs to improve so support is fair, accessible, and available when people need it. We are planning a new Independent Advocacy service, expected to start in April 2027.
Through this engagement, we want to learn more about:
- What people want from Independent Advocacy
- Access to, and awareness of, Independent Advocacy
- How advocacy is provided
- How advocacy is arranged and supported
We’re inviting people from across our communities to help design the new service. Your insights whether from personal experience, supporting others, or working in health and care services are essential to shaping support that really works.
By working together, we aim to create an Independent Advocacy service that supports people’s independence, protects their rights, and helps them feel confident, informed, and heard.
